Aqua Zoi began with a simple discovery. During a visit to the Greek island of Kalymnos, home to generations of traditional sponge divers, founder Melissa Xanthos encountered natural Mediterranean sea sponges being harvested by hand and used daily for bathing, skincare and everyday household use. After more than two decades working as a clinical Pilates instructor helping people reconnect with their bodies and build meaningful wellbeing rituals, the simplicity of this natural product stood out immediately. These were not factory-made bath accessories. They were natural sea sponges grown in the clear waters of the Mediterranean and harvested sustainably using traditional diving methods that have been practised for centuries. Today Aqua Zoi works directly with diving families in Kalymnos and Crete to bring these sea sponges to Australia. The collection includes soft honeycomb bath sponges, delicate facial sponges and versatile multi-purpose varieties used for exfoliation, bathing and natural cleaning. Each sponge is completely unique in shape, texture and colour. In its first year exhibiting at Australian trade shows, Aqua Zoi was recognised with Best Breakthrough Brand at the Reed Gift Fair and received an Editor’s Choice Wellbeing Award from The Beauty Shortlist Awards.
