About TianqingReverie

Our name, TianqingReverie, comes from tianqing (天青): the color of the sky as it clears after rain. Nearly a thousand years ago, this serene sky blue became the signature color of Ru ware. The Ru kiln was one of the Five Great Kilns of China's Song dynasty, celebrated for its soft celadon glaze, fine natural crackle and restrained, elegant forms. Our other blue comes from an older, humbler tradition: plant indigo dyeing. Cloth is folded, bound and stitched, then dipped again and again into plant indigo until layers of blue slowly emerge, so no two pieces are exactly alike. TianqingReverie brings these two blues together: one sky blue, born of clay, glaze and fire; one indigo, born of plants, cloth and water. Different traditions, one shared spirit: natural materials and the marks of the hand. Ru Ware Collection: handmade in Qingliangsi, Baofeng, the site of the original Northern Song imperial Ru kiln. Vases, tea ware, bowls and incense vessels, including select 1:1 recreations of celebrated museum pieces. Indigo Collection: plant indigo–dyed fabric flowers, pillow covers, tea runners, bags, jewelry and hair accessories, made with traditional tie-dye, resist-dye and hand-stitching. Made to live together: place an indigo flower in a Ru bud vase, or set a Ru tea cup on a hand-dyed tea runner. Every piece is a small reverie in blue.
