In 2008, Earthley founder Kate Tietje welcomed her first daughter into the world. Like many new parents, she expected a few bumps along the way. What she didn't expect was spending those early months searching for answers to recurring health challenges like severe diaper rash, eczema, food sensitivities, and digestive issues. When the treatments she was prescribed didn't bring the results she hoped for - and in one case made things worse…Kate decided to dig deeper. She immersed herself in herbalism, nutrition, and traditional wellness practices. After countless hours of studying and experimenting, she created her own herbal diaper cream. It worked. Not only did it soothe her daughter's skin gently, but that original formula eventually evolved into what is now our beloved All-Purpose Salve. That experience changed everything. Instead of stopping with one recipe, Kate continued learning from experienced herbalists, studying traditional herbal practices, creating remedies for her growing family, and teaching others through workshops and her educational website, Modern Alternative Mama.
